Obviously, certain times of year are going to be better then others. To give you a detailed outlook, I’ve put together a list of seasonal patterns and what you can expect throughout the year.
MARCH - MAY:
This is going to be one of the best times of year. Fish begin moving to the shallows in anticipation of spawning. A wide array of techniques can be used. The weather is some of the most comfortable you will see all year. Daily temps run from the 60’s in the morning to the 80’s and 90’s during the day. Bring the suntan lotion, because you won’t notice the sunburn you are going to get when you’re watching these Big Fish swimming around in front of you.
Here is what you can expect...
Your Best Five Largemouth Bass for the day will typically range from 20 to 35+ Pounds, and that’s no joke! Imagine a Four Pound Average, those are bragging rights. Now Imagine a possible SEVEN Pound average, that is just plain INSANE. These Largemouth will be eating Crankbaits, Senko’s, Lizards, Jigs, Swimbaits, Topwater and plenty of other baits. And there is no need to downsize this time of year, so no dropshotting is necessary. For those that are familiar or not familiar with these baits and techniques, I will make sure you have learned something by the end of the day regardless.
JUNE - AUGUST:
Night fishing time. A typical day on the water will start at 6 p.m. and run until midnight for a half day, and for those diehard fishermen you can fish a full day from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. This has to be the second best time of year for big fish. You will also catch a lot of fish.
Here is what you can expect...
20 to 40+ fish a night assuming there are no Monsoons rolling through. Most Largemouth Bass will average Two to Three Pounds each. A handful of Four and Five pound fish are caught each night. Also Six to Eight Plus pound Largemouth are caught on occasion. I took eight consecutive trips between June and July in 2004 where we caught one or two fish over Seven Pounds each night we went out. I was having a hard time trying to decide whether or not this time of year was better than the spring bite. I would have to say the numbers of fish caught was better than spring in 2004, but that’s most likely because we focus on catching strictly Big fish during the Spring. Overall I would have to say that 2004 was one of the best years Saguaro has had and it is only getting better.
SEPTEMBER - NOVEMBER:
Fall Transition.
DECEMBER - FEBRUARY:
Wintertime is Swimbait time.
